Some councils now require a Landscape Plan which will show some or all of the items below. 

•  Trees and, shrubs (drought tolerant native species preferred)
• Garden Areas
• Lawn areas
• Driveways and all impermeable areas
• Deep Soil Zones
• Landscape features
• Retaining Walls
• Shadow Diagrams
• External Living Areas.
• Pools

These plans provide the local council or certifying authority with a guide to the finished site. Water use in the garden can also be calculated and measures put in place to ensure there is enough water available through rainwater tanks and greywater recycling to meet the need of the garden without relying too heavily on the municipal water supply.
